Open Box iPod touch 8GB (w/o software upgrade)
Price: $199.00
Handheld electronics (ala the iPhone and iPod) are getting nearly as complicated as computers nowadays. What used to be a pretty straightforward exercise in terms of what you get when you buy one, is now more complicated because of software downloads and adjustments, not mention all the 'computery' things they do.
And so, because we always like to offer our customers choices (while of course always being willing to explain what those choices mean), you'll see that we offer touches (oh yes, those wacky marketing folks at Apple that don't let us capitalize "touch") with and without software upgrades. So what the heck does that mean?
Well, there was a software upgrade announced at Macworld 2008, and then another for when the iPhone 3G ships: July 14, 2008). The new software will be available for download from Apple iTunes (through their new App Store) for $20.00. It includes new mobile apps similar to that of the iPhone and also adds Mail, Maps, Stocks and Weather applications.
Whether or not you care about the new software, the touches without the upgrade will save you money overall. If you just want the thing to work with the latest software and not mess with any downloads (as easy as they are), then you'll want one with the latest software already installed. Either way, we give you a choice!
Now, on to the product propaganda:
